The PC marketplace is quickly filling up with online multiplayer shooters, which makes Masthead Studios’ decision to jump into this pool a particularly daring one. However, the Bulgarian developer believes they have an engaging game on their hands with Guns and Robots, a free-to-play online multiplayer shooter that features deep levels of character customization.
To learn more about the game, I talked to Masthead’s Lina Dandanova.
In addition to boasting a parade of high-caliber weaponry and large battlefields, Guns and Robots will feature a whimsically cartoonish art style, creating paradoxically cute and funny robots that can also destroy anything in sight. Dandanova hopes the game’s art style will set this game apart from its competition. “We wanted to bring out something unique with a lot of humor and visual style that would make everyone laugh,” she said. “The task was challenging, but really fun for the studio. Our idea was to reveal the characters of the robots via the antimony of being cute, but deadly at the same time. Then the idea just came out. We tried to imagine them in the arenas, in the garage and we were determined to give to our lethal tinheads a place to dominate.”
Of course, any online shooter needs guns and lots of them. So what does Guns and Robots have in place to support the first half of their title? “Everyone here at the studio is a big fan of online shooters and weapons,” Dandanova answered. “In Guns and Robots, there will be literally countless types of weapons, in terms of their visual and functional aspects. There are weapons that use energy instead of bullets, or use missiles, plasmas, electricity, sound, microwaves, and even mind force. Now imagine a weapon case that can use up to five of those barrels. We have already revealed some of the noteworthy collection that we will introduce in December — beauties like the Reaper, the Toaster and the Sandblaster. Those weapons are unique, because they do not refer to any realistic weapons we have seen in a shooter. They are fine-tuned with all kinds of household utensils and are pure fun to use. Players who want some high action will be able to pick from a variety of long-range high DPS light machine guns and cases, as well. Fun cartoon-style weapon suffixes will make the weapons look less frightening than they really are. We have also prepared a set of lasers and fitting cases.”
