The new map of GUNS and ROBOTS represents two pirate ships. The ships are agile place for the ruthless crew of robots, farmed with as many guns as possible. The first one represents classic pirate intimidating ship used to capture and prey on the valuable merchant ships, while the other is smaller in size – “Prey”.

DEVICES

A new type of items that you can equip to your robot. They have different abilities and will give you different gameplay style depending on which you choose.

- Radar : The basic Radar offers movement detection and Friend or Foe recognition on demand. Use it to find stray enemies or to regroup with your team.

- Gravity Mine : Tired of trying to hit those pesky Zip-Lines? Throw a Grav Mine in their path and they’ll be like sitting ducks!

- Anti-Robot Mine : Proximity-triggered explosives might be a cliche, but no one can argue their deadly efficiency. Certainly not your victims.

- EMP Mine : A robot without guns is a scrapped robot. Deny your foes the use of their weapons and disassemble them at your leisure!

You can equip up to two devices on one robot. The default activation keys are “Q” and “E”. Each device consumes energy wen activated and has a cool-down time before you can use it again

PERFORMANCE

- “Abordage” arena optimization.

- “Laundry” arena optimization.

Now the FPS on those arenas should be much higher.

SOFIA, BULGARIA – April 8, 2013 – Masthead Studios, a leading independent game developer, today released the new arena of their free to play title GUNS and ROBOTS.

The new map of GUNS and ROBOTS represents two pirate ships. The ships are agile place for the ruthless crew of robots, farmed with as many guns as possible. The first one represents classic pirate intimidating ship used to capture and prey on the valuable merchant ships, while the other is smaller in size – “Prey”.

The new map allows players to test their robots in new situations. According to what ship location the players spawn they will have to intimidate the opponents to submission, deadly and well armed. The arena differs from the previous arenas as there are little places to play hide and seek.

This arena is suitable for the competitive players who enjoy adrenaline-pumping game play. There are large docks where players have to be with fast chassis and to strive in order to avoid enemy attacks.

The weapons we create in Guns and Robots are unique because they do not refer to any realistic weapons we have seen in a shooter. We do not want them to be alike and that is why we are constantly aiming at the unique visuals, balance, interesting usage, constantly improving their modifiers and suffixes.

The weapons in GAR are generally classified in three main categories – heavy, light and medium. As GAR is all about customization we have fine-tuned the weaponry with all kinds of household utensils which are pure fun to use. Fun cartoon style weapon suffixes makes the weapons look not as frightening as they really are. What we like most about our weapons is the freedom to tailor the arsenal according to specific play style. In this first dev diary about the weapons in Gar we want to present you the Ant Killer, Humiliator, Trasher and the Stringray.

Our initial selection of hardware was lacking a representative of the Energy Weapons category, and it was a long way for novice players to reach the Pewpew laser. Hence, we introduced the Ant Killer: an affordable, entry level energy gun that contrasts the Pewpew’s high rate of fire with slower but more precise performance. The Ant Killer as dictated by its name has to represent weapon and a fun playtoy. As the design had to be with elegance of a killer and at the same time had to remind of the playtime with magnifying glass the task was hard. The whole concept and story behind the weapon was difficult to represent as the robots were not so easily killed by a magnifying glass as ants were. That was the reason we had to think of a credible visuals to represent its deadly energy power. That is how the Ant Killer was born from the credentials we already had in our mind about combining deadly with funny!

The Stingray idea came after many preliminary phases and tests we had performed in the first weeks of the Open Beta. We needed a weapon that our players could get their hands on very early, after a couple of matches. They got the Stingray – it may be thought of as a poor man’s Reaper, but the difference in combat stats is nowhere near as big as the one in the price. This Light Weapon launches electro-tip darts at your opponent that will shock and short-circuit his systems. The gameplay was lacking variations in the weaponry and we still needed to add a weapon that was deadly in close encounters.

That is how we came with the idea of making the Humiliator. Ever feel like punching someone in the face? We wanted to give to our players the option to bring to their enemies destitution, despair and humiliation with one shot! This close range weapon is very interesting as of its usage. It punches the enemies with a balloon and damages severely those in the range. For the concept of the weapon we think of what will be most humiliating for a robot? And guess what ? A balloon in the face !

As many of the weapons are practically made of trash, there was no reason we should not make a weapon like the Trasher. The Trasher is short range weapon and it launches …well trash. Ever wondered how many garbage your opponents can take? Dump the trash in your enemies’ face with this short range weapon and see!

“The mini map is the first device that we will introduce to our players”, said Atanas Atanasov, CEO of Masthead Studios. The mini map is small tactical data that helps players build their strategy towards approaching enemies. This device will change the game play and provide players with more new strategies to employ during the game. “It was our first choice after considering what our community wants”, he added. The device will also grant players some additional protection in the game and time to evade the opponent’s attacks. The mini map will show the player team positions on the map and help for the team tactical efficiency.

The next device that will assist players in the game and will give some additional defensive powers is the shield. This device will help players that want to survive bad injuries while waiting for back-up from the team. With the shield players will have the time to react while searching for place to take cover.

The team behind GUNS and ROBOTS have planned for the Spring update land mines. The land mines will activate, under or on the ground to disable enemies as they pass over the devices. They can be used both as defensive or offensive game strategies. They will give advantage to the whole team during battles. They vary as some of them will slow the opponent or drain energy.

The turrets are the devices that will refresh the game play in many ways. They will give efficient tactical combinations against heavy robots. Turrets will come in many shapes and will be placed on flat spaces on the map.
